Thaumasite from N'Chwanning Mine, Kuruman, South Africa [db_pics/pics/lp233a.jpg] Thaumasite from N'Chwanning Mine, Kuruman, South Africa [db_pics/pics/lp233b.jpg]

Transparent single yellow crystal of Thaumasite, a rare mineral species related to Ettringite and Sturmanite found in the Kalahari Manganese fields of South Africa. These were found in the 1990s and I used to be able to buy them many years ago from South African dealer Clive Quiet until supplies dried up. I was fortunate to find this crystal recently from someone who had also bought this from Clive Quiet and stockpiled it until now. It's a complete, undamaged single crystal with great luster and total transparency. A rare, now hard to find gem quality crystal.

I was fortunate to find this specimen recently from someone who had also bought this from Clive Quiet and stockpiled it until now. It's a rare matrix specimen from the find. Even while these were available, matrix specimens were always rare, as most were loose single crystals. Some crystals show some wear, regardless, it's a hard to find rarity.

Cluster of lustrous metallic Manganite crystals from Atikokan. At first glance I thought this was from Ilfeld, Germany because the crystals were so much larger than what I normally see from Canadian Manganite - it has crystals to 1.8cm tall. This is a well documented specimen from the JIm Watson collection (with label and old photograph), and comes with another old label from George and Susan Robinson Minerals that dates to 1978.

There are also a few brown Roweite crystals. Interestingly, the type locality for Roweite is Franklin, New Jersey, where only one specimen was found. Ex. Len Pisciotta collection.
