D152 - Prehnite $ 1800 Merelani Hills, Arusha, Tanzania cabinet - 12.5 x 7.5 x 6 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Large, catepillar-like formation of Prehnite crystals. A very interesting specimen for it's unique form, distinct crystals, and coloration (way better than photos - the camera didn't pick up the blue green color well). New finds at Merelani have produced Prehnites with a color I've not seen before, sort of a mixture of both green and blue. This specimen features both typical lemon yellow and the new blue/green colored crystals. While most Prehnites from other parts of the world occur as botryoidal masses or spheres, Merelani produces well formed, distinct crystals, and this specimen is loaded wtih them. It has double-terminated clusters to 5cm and individual crystals to 3cm. There is one small smooth area where it contacted a Calcite crystal, otherwise it's a floater covered by crystals on all sides, with little if any damage. One of the best, if not the best, Merelani Prehnite I've had. Minor Pyrite and Graphite in association.
D154 - Tsavorite, Diopside on Graphite $ 1250 Merelani Hills, Arusha, Tanzania cabinet - 12.5 x 6 x 3.5 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() Rare large matrix sized specimen of glassy and transparent Tsavorite crystals (green Grossular), Diopside crystals, and small white crystals of Chabazite (?) on a Graphite crystal covered matrix. This is an uncommon and classic example of many minerals from the Merelani mineral suite, all in one large, colorful specimen.
D156 - Heliodor $ 1500 Volodarsk-Volynskii, Ukraine small cabinet - 5.7 x 2 x 1.8 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() Exquisite gem Heliodor crystal with typical etching for the locality, though it retains alot of it's original hexagonal form. Good luster and all gem internally. Complete and undamaged with a naturally etched hollow area at the rear termination area. Weighs 30.73 grams.
D161 - Azurite $ 800 Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Sonora, Mexico miniature - 5 x 3.3 x 2 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() Undamaged floater crystal group with no points of contact - nothing but great crystals. The crystals have good luster and fantastic electric blue color. This specimen is from what was called the Watercourse Pocket. The main, central crystal has a little area of Malachite poking out one end. There has been plenty of Milpillas Azurite found, but I consider these watercours pocket floater specimens to be among the best for the mine.
D162 - Azurite $ 600 Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Sonora, Mexico miniature - 4 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Floater crystal group of Azurite with no points of contact - nothing but great crystals. The crystals have good luster and fantastic electric blue color. This specimen is from what was called the Watercourse Pocket. There are some fibers of Malachite attached and a couple crystls show areas of alteration to Malachite. There si one tiny crystal that is damaged, likely due to the internal alteration to Malachite, otherwise the specimen is undamaged. There has been plenty of Milpillas Azurite found, but I consider these watercours pocket floater specimens to be among the best for the mine.
D169 - Copper after Azurite $ 200 Copper Rose Mine, Grant Co., New Mexico, USA thumbnail - 2.5 x 2.2 x 1.5 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A floater cluster of Azurite that has been completely replaced by Copper. Complete on both sides with well defined, sharp edges. A remarkable and fantastic specimen.

D174 - Malachite over Cuprite $ 350 Ongonja, Seeis, Namibia thumbnail - 2.1 x 2 x 1.8 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() Well formed crystal of Cuprite covered with a thin coating of Malachite on a small amount of Calcite matrix. The Cuprite in these specimens are often transparent and faceted into gemstones. These are classics and now hard to find. The main crystal shows good well defined edges and is 2cm wide. There is a partial crystal on the back, which I actually like because it offers a window into the bright red Cuprite interior but does not detract when viewed from the front.
D175 - Malachite over Cuprite $ 260 Ongonja, Seeis, Namibia thumbnail - 2.5 x 1.7 x 1.5 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() Well formed crystal of Cuprite with a thin coating of Malachite. Complete all around and undamaged except for some slight edge chipping. Smooth, flat crystal faces. Zircon crystals from this locality often have long thin surface grooves caused by another unidentified crystal. This crystal has such surface grooves, and it also has a crystal of the other mineral fully included inside it. A whitish colored crystal a full 1cm long can be seen running lengthwise in one side of the Zircon crystal.
