J146 - Agate after Shell $ 220 (=~ € 201) Dakhla area, Western Sahara, Morocco small cabinet - 5.4 x 3 x 2.6 cm Fossil shell that has been replaced by translucent golden agate. These are found on the surface, having weathered out of the surrounding rock formations. There are about 40 different species found at this deposit. Although they could have weathered out of different formations, they are all believed to be Eocene in age. Most are broken pieces and weathered and perfectly preserved examples such as this are uncommon, probably less than 5 percent of what is found. Fine quality large specimen.
J154 - Spinel $ 150 (=~ € 137) Mahenge, Morogoro, Tanzania thumbnail - 1.7 x 1.5 x 1.1 cm Octahedral pink Spinel crystal. Complete crystal with good luster. A tiny chip on one point, otherwise undamaged.
J156 - Spinel $ 150 (=~ € 137) Mahenge, Morogoro, Tanzania thumbnail - 2 x 1.7 x 1.2 cm Complete octahedral pink Spinel crystal with good color. Complete all around with some natural etching/edge wear.
J164 - Euchroite $ 250 (=~ € 228) Svatoduska, near Lubietova, Slovakia miniature - 3.5 x 2.3 x 2 cm Deep green Euchroite crystals to 2-3mm that contrast well against the dark brown matrix. Good crystals that are fairly well isolated.
C683 - Thaumasite $ 1500 (=~ € 1370) N'Chwanning Mine, Kuruman, South Africa miniature - 3.4 x 3 x 1.3 cm Thaumasite is a rare mineral in the Ettringite group, the best were found at the N'Chwanning. This is a rare matrix specimen - you used to be able to find small single crystals but now even those are hard to find. Matrix specimens were always uncommon, and I have only ever had one before, a similar piece to this one that I paid a similar price to Katherine Woest about 15 years ago. Crystals are a transparent yellow and reach 5mm in diameter. White tufts of Xonotlite are dispersed between the Thaumasite crystals.
C688 - Hausmanite $ 900 (=~ € 822) N'Chwanning II Mine, Kuruman, South Africa small cabinet - 9 x 5.5 x 3 cm Matrix covered by Andradite crystals in turn coated by numerous well formed Hausmanite crystals. Clean and undamaged. Comes with a Wendel Minerals label that indicates it was formerly part of the Mayer collection.
J275 - Topaz after Augelite with Quartz $ 750 (=~ € 685) Mundo Nuevo Mine, La Libertad, Peru miniature - 5 x 3 x 3 cm Two light lavender casts of Topaz after Augelite associated with elongated, transparent Quartz crystals. This was fouond about ten years ago when the great Augelite finds were made. There are two casts present, the largest over 2cm. This is the best of only a few I saw available. They were originally thought to be Fluorite after Augelite, but have been tested and confirmed to be Topaz.
J277 - Chalcedony after Fluorite $ 375 (=~ € 343) Trestia, Maramures, Romania small cabinet - 6 x 4 x 3 cm Classic old specimen of translucent blue Chalcedony that has repalced cubic Fluorite. Lustrous undamaged crystals. Comes with an old Julius Bohm label.
J255 - Talc after Enstatite Bamle, Norway small cabinet - 7.5 x 6.5 x 4 cm Large intergrown Enstatite crystals that have been replaced by green Talc. Complete all around and terminated. These were found in approximately 1900-1910 and this is considered a large specimen. Comes with an old German label.
J254 - Orthoclase after Quartz $ 350 (=~ € 320) Krupka, Erzgebirge Mtns., Czech Republic small cabinet - 8 x 4 x 3 cm Rare pseudomorph of Orthoclase after Quartz. Orthoclase hosting the 3cm pseudomorph at one end, mostly the termination of the former Quartz crystal. Collected in the 1970s, this is one of only a small number of specimens known.
J252 - Galena after Bournonite $ 750 (=~ € 685) Pribram, Bohemia, Czech Republic cabinet - 12 x 7 x 4 cm Large, relatively flat specimen with the front face covered by crystals of Galena that have replaced Bournonite. Individual crystal reach 1.2cm in size and are undamaged.
J269 - Realgar and Orpiment replacing fossil coral $ 125 (=~ € 114) Gold Bar Mine, Eureka Co., Nevada, USA small cabinet - 6 x 5 x 1.5 cm Specimen of Realgar and Orpiment that has replaced fossilized coral. Sawcut on front face to show the coral structure.
J267 - Pyrhottite $ 260 (=~ € 238) Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico small cabinet - 6 x 5.5 x 4 cm Large, chunky single Pyrhottite crystal from Mexico. This is from an old collection and these are now uncommon to find. Besides being a large crystal, it has an interesting purple sheen over much of the surface.
J307 - Tsavorite with Diopside $ 350 (=~ € 320) Merelani Hills, Arusha, Tanzania thumbnail - 1.6 x 1.3 x 1.3 cm Complete single Tsavorite crystal with attached Graphite and two terminated Diopside crystals.
J308 - Tsavorite with Pyrite $ 450 (=~ € 411) Merelani Hills, Arusha, Tanzania thumbnail - 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.2 cm Tsavorite crystals on Graphite with attached Pyrite crystals. Complete all around and undamaged. The main crystal is 1cm and transparent.
