P245 - Quartz gwindel $ 1200 SOLD Uri, Switzerland thumbnail - 1.9 x 1.7 x 0.7 cm
Transparent gwindel Quartz from Switzerland. This is an excellent example of a half-open, half-closed gwindel. The corner modification is rare. Fully transparent and complete all around. An undamaged gem of a specimen, competition quality. Ex. Carl Acosta collection.
P246 - Smithsonite on Coronadite $ 2400 Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia miniature - 3.8 x 3 x 2.8 cm
Large, satiny mass of translucent Smithsonite from Broken Hill. The Smithsonite is 2.7cm wide which is large for the locality that typically produced smaller 'rice-grain' sized Smithsonite. The Smithsonite is translucent and complete all around and sits on a matrix of a partial Coronadite stalactite. Fine and undamaged. Ex. Carl Acosta collection.
P247 - Tourmaline $ 9500 SOLD Rocket Pocket, Pederniera Mine, Sao Jose da Safira, Minas Gerais, Brazil cabinet - 10 x 1.5 x 1.2 cm
Gemmy single blue/green Tourmaline crystal from the famous 'Rocket Pocket' of the Pederniera Mine. Found in 2001, the Rocket Pocket was small but yielded about 350 crystals. The crystals were of very high quality and ranged in size up to 12 cm. This crystal has a steep pyramidal termination on both the main crystal and smaller side crystal. It is transparent and hollow at the base, as is typical for many pieces from this pocket. Undamaged and unrepaired. Pictured in the Mineralogical Record Pederniera Mine issue (Volume 46, #1, page 78). The photo in the Mineralogical Record shows Daniel Trinchillo catloguing the crystals from the pocket. Daniel confirmed to Carl that this crystal is the leftmost crystal of the group of longer crystals shown in the photo. Ex. Carl Acosta collection. Weighs 27.06 grams.
P248 - Quartz cast $ 350 Mt. Baldwin, Mono Co., California, USA small cabinet - 5.8 x 5.4 x 3 cm
Unusual Quartz formation that looks like an Egyptian pyramid. It has smooth white outer faces with one tip open revealing a hollow, crystal-lined interior. Ex. Carl Acosta collection.
P249 - Quartz with Hematite $ 650 SOLD Beckermet Mine, Egremont, Cumbria, England miniature - 5 x 5 x 2.2 cm
Cluster of sharp Quartz crystals that grew atop rounded 'Kidney-ore' Hematite (some of which remains on the back side). The Quartz are inturn partially coated by sparkley Hematite crystals. This has wonderful aesthetics and is the most attractive of these specimens I recall seeing with a nice overall form and more 'sparkle' than most (much better than photos which don't capture all the sparkle!). Also note in the photo showing the backside, all those Quartz faces are also well crystallized and this is nearly a flaoter. Undamaged and comes with an old Al McGuinness label. Ex. Carl Acosta collection.
P251 - Quartz with Chlorite $ 250 Orange River, Namibia cabinet - 10 x 4.4 x 3 cm
Doubly-terminated transparent smokey Quartz crystal from the Orange River area of Namibia. Each termination has green Chlorite inclusions, and the larger termination shows phantoms. This is an old specimen from the Chuck Trantham collection who's old label notes it was a gift from Art Reno back in 1978. Complete and undamaged. Ex. Carl Acosta collection.
P252 - Quartz cast $ 150 SOLD Pine Creek Tungsten Mine, Bishop, California, USA miniature - 4 x 2.7 x 0.9 cm
Sharp, hollow Quartz cast after interstitial Calcite. The outer surfaces are smooth and flat with drusy Quartz crystals lining the inner surfaces. Ex. Carl Acosta collection.
P253 - Cuprite $ 1250 Poteryaevskoe Mine, Rubtsovskoe Deposit, Western Siberia, Russia miniature - 3.3 x 3.1 x 2.9 cm
Large, dark red Cuprite crystal, octahedral in form with cube modifications and some of the tips. Complete all around with a contact on one tip and a cluster of smaller attached/intergrown crystals. Ex. Carl Acosta collection.
