AU103 - Tetrahedrite $ 750 Casapalca Mine, Huarochirà Province, Lima, Peru cabinet - 15 x 15 x 6.5 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Large specimen of lustrous metallic Tetrahedrite crystals atop a Pyrite and Sphalerite matrix. Casapalca Tetrahedrite are Peruvian classics and well known as some of the best in the world. This is a large showy example associated with clear Quartz crystals and has Tetrahedrite crystals to 2.3cm in size.
AU366 - Rutile $ 350 Diamantina, Minas Gerais, Brazil thumbnail - 2.3 x 1 x 0.7 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Cluster of doubly-terminated and twinned Rutile crystals from Brazil. The main crystal is doubly-terminated with a twin crystal attached to the side. The crystals are complete all around and undamaged. Backlighting reveals the crystals to be fully transparent with a red to gold coloration.
AU367 - Smithsonite with Willemite $ 1200 Berg Aukus Mine, Grootfontein, Namibia miniature - 4.2 x 3 x 1.8 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Satiny, translucent yellow Smithsonite with micro Willemite. Lesser known than Tsumeb, this mine produced some great Smithsonite specimens. The Smithsonite is highly translucent and you can see straight through to the matrix in areas. Ex. AU368 - Opal after Clam $ 1200 SOLD Coober Pedy, South Australia, Australia miniature - 4.2 x 3.3 x 1.2 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Precious Opal that has replaced a fossil clam shell from the famous Coober Pedy opal fields in Australia. Most of these are uniform in shape and polished smooth, looking more like Opal that has filled casts after fossil clams. This one retains all the features of the clam including the hinge area and the back shows all the ridges and striations of the former shell surface. The top side is lightly polished and shows bright reds, greens, gold, and purple colorization. I purchased this one from a jewelry store in Chinatown, San Francisco about 25 years ago from the owner who was reluctant to sell. This is a rare, complete specimen translucent when backlit.
AU369 - Dravite $ 600 Mwajanga, near Komolo, Tanzania small cabinet - 6.3 x 1 x 0.7 cm ![]() ![]() Tall, slender gem Dravite crystal from Mwajanga. Well terminated, complete and undamaged single crystal that displays a slight bend from fracturing and rehealing during growth. Transparent with a golden brown coloration. I only backlit the termination area, but it is transparent top to bottom.
AU370 - Magnetite with Clinochlore $ 750 SOLD Karzemkkul deposit, Kostanay Region, Kazakhstan miniature - 5 x 4.5 x 2.5 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() Formations of shiny black Magnetite crystals with green flower-like crystal groups of Clinochlore from an obscure deposit in Kazakhstan. This was easily the most aesthetic example I selected from a few flats of this material available at the Tucson show back in the 1990s.

There are both individual crystals, doubly-terminated crystals, and a large pinwheel cluster. What makes this special is the more green than yellow color and the aesthetic arrangement of the crystals. Undamaged fine miniature.

AU307 - Chrysoberyl $ 1250 Colatina, Espirito Santo, Brazil thumbnail - 3 x 1.4 x 0.7 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rare gem Chrysoberyl crystal from Espirito Santo (possibly Santa Teresa though old label says Colatina) that does not have the typical sixling twinning. This crystal has smooth, sharp, well-formed faces all around and a greenish-yellow, golden coloration. Undamaged and gemmy top to bottom.
