AU162 - Millerite $ 3500 Perseverance Mine (Agnew Mine), Leinster, Leonora Shire, Western Australia, Australia large cabinet - 16 x 13 x 5.5 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Large, museum sized Millerite specimen from the Agnew Mine, one of the largest nickel deposits in the world. This is an impressive large specimen composed of multiple hemispherical clusters of golden acicular Millerite crystals. The mound-like clusters reach over 6cm in diameter. The bright golden acicular crystals are reaadily seen on the smaller clusters and the the exposed sides of the larger clusters. It's an incredible piece worthy of a museum, in fact I understand most museums in Australia don't have an Agnew Millerite of this magnitude. This is an old specimen from a now closed mine.

AU128 - Opal after Ikaite $ 2000 SOLD Naatji Nest Mine, White Cliffs, Yungnulgra Co., New South Wales, Australia small cabinet - 7 x 7 x 4.5 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Spikey crystals of Opal after Ikaite forming what are known as 'opal pineapples'. These are actually believed to be double pseudomorphs, with the Ikaite first replacing Calcite crystals, which are then replaced by the Opal. The interior is all translucent to transparent opal with some blue/purple 'fire' showing. The large, spikey crystal form is very good on this one. I showed this specimen to mine owner Graeme Dowton who told me this one was found around 1995 and that most with such well defined points naturally fall apart before being mined. He indicated the mine is now nearly exhausted with little being found and he would value a piece like this at about $4000 (I got it in trade from a collection and can therefore offer it for much less). Interestingly, the mine name is derived from the fact that the indigenous people believed that the Opal Pineapple was the egg of the serpent Naatji, and since this is where they are found, it's the 'nest'.
