The crystals formed in a vug on massive Graphite with crystals of Graphite present lining the vug. The main Tsavorite is about 7mm and highly gemmy. Tsavorite is a chrome and vanadium rich variety of Grossular from East Africa and is one of the most valuable types of garnet found anywhere. This specimen was found at the Merelani Tanzanite mines and a fine example of some of minerals found at this locality.
