BEN1 - Benitoite $ 8000 SOLD Gem Mine, San Benito Co., California, USA cabinet - 11 x 10 x 4 cm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Old Benitoite specimen with exceptionally good coverage of crystals. There is a 1.2cm triple term at the lower right, and in the center is a 2cm triple terminated crystal, though one termination could be better exposed by removing some more Natrolite. This is out a collection built in the 1970s and it has not been cleaned at all since then, so likey could be improved with modern cleaning/preparation methods. There is also no damage except along the very edges and part of a ridge of matrix that rises up at the upper right. I've only ever seen a small number os specimens of this size with such dense coverage of Benitoite.

Usually found as radial aggregates of crystals, this specimen is unusual in that there is an isolated upright 6mm crystal in the center. Two different crystal habits present - the large crystal is rectangular in cross-section and the the rest have a sharp, bladed form. .

The specimen is solid Brucite without any matrix with the backside flat where it was attached to the host rock. Though only medium yellow, it is translucent, thick and sturdy.

The specimen is solid Brucite well crystallized all around and undamaged. It's a 360 degree 'pinwheel' formation on a small amount of matrix. It is technically a floater because the matrix is covered by a thin layer of lighter colored Brucite. Though only medium yellow, it is translucent, thick and sturdy.
