Mineral Specimens from the 2008 Tucson Mineral Show

Mixed Tucson Minerals

A random selection of minerals from the show - Chrysoberls, Alexandrite, Datolite, Cuprite, Chalcosite, Proustite, Pyragyrite, Anatase, more.

Indian Minerals

Fluorite, Scolecite, and Cavansite from India.

Imiter Mine Silver

Bright wire Silver from the Imiter Mine in Morocco. These are highly aesthetic Silver specimens with dense masses of wires rising up out of Acanthite. According to my Moroccan contact, the Imiter Mine is tightly controlled and he is the only one who can get these out of the mine. These were all he had available and I bought them all.

Minerals of Pakistan and Afghanistan

Gem Crystals of Tanzania

This page contains two of the most exciting finds from this year's Tucson show. The first are the new Spessartine crystals, I have only one crystal, but it's a good one. The second are the green Diopside crystals from Merelani. Diopside crystals have historically been found somewhat regularly at Merelani, however usually in a lighter, mint green color. These have a great, saturated deep green color. Two my knowledge, this is only the second time Diopside has been found here with this vivid green color. There are also two very fine green Grossular crystals.

Mixed Minerals from China

Assorted Chinese minerals available at the show - mangano Calcite, Realgar, Fluorite, Azurite, Babingtonite, Bournonite, Cinnabar, etc.

Purple Scapolite

New find of gemmy purple Scapolite crystals from Afghanistan. We have seen the thin purple crystals from here over the past few years, but his find is of a different style of thicker crystals. A few dealers had these at the show, though most were severly damaged or unterminated. This lot contains the largest crystal I saw, and the last three are the gemmiest, most perfect crystals I found.

Mixed North American Minerals

Specimens from the John Ydren Collection

A small lot of minerals selected from the recently released collection of John Ydren. John Ydren was a Los Angeles, California area collector who assembled his collection mostly in the 1960s and 1970s. These are not "Tucson minerals" per se, as I obtained them about a month ago prior to the show. Rock Currier bought the collection and I was able to make my selection when he first started selling them. Rock did have the remainder of the collection for sale at Tucson.

Minerals from Africa

A selection of various African specimens obtained at the show. Of note are a new find of Dioptase from Kaokaveld, Namibia that feature larger than normal crystals.

Copper after Cuprite

A new find of Copper psuedo. Cuprite from the Itauz Mine, which has been famous in years past for its spectacular spinel twin Copper crystals. In these specimens, the former Cuprite crystals have been replaced by a filligree of small Copper crystals all compactly intergrown with a sharp outward expression of the octahedrons of the former Cuprite crystals.
