New Find from the Stewart Mine When reading stories about famous mines like the Stewart in books such as American Mineral Treasures, we often time dream about "the good old days" and forget that some of these mines are still active. Well, on May 10, 2008, an approximately 3.5 x 3.5 foot pocket was opened at the Stewart yielding a small number of the "hot pink" Tourmaline crystals this mine is famous for. When it comes to bright pink color in, nothing beats the Stewart. This is the best to come from the mine in at least 8 years. |

Bright "hot" pink Tourmaline crystal from a May10, 2008 find. Good internal transparency with one area that will yield and estimated 20 carat stone. Terminated crystal with top pink color. A ding on one edge of termination and another small one on one side. This has some inherent gem value as I am told faceted stones of this color sell for around $200/carat and there is approx. 20-40 carats of stones that could be cut from this crystal. 216 carats in weight, 4 x 2.2 x 2.1 cm.
