T657 - Malachite on Chrysocolla after Malachite $ 1200 Katanga, Congo cabinet - 10 x 8.5 x 4 cm The Katanga region of the Democratic Republic of Congo is the Malachite capital of the world, yet most of the Malachite is lapidary grade with only a small percentage (usually fibrous or stalactitc specimens) being of any interest to mineral collectors. With specimens like this, Katanga can also claim to be one of the best localities for perfectly crystallized Malachite too. This specimen features perfectly formed individual crystals to 1.3 cm on a colorful and contrasting matrix of sky blue Chrysocolla. Just fabulously sharp single crystals. The Chrysocolla has partially pseudomorphed an earlier generation of Malachite crystals. ©2010-2018 Marin Mineral |
