B862 - Grandidierite Anosy Region, Tulear Province, Madagascar cabinet - 9.5 x 5 x 4 cm Large specimen of rare Grandidierite, in fact the largest single piece I've ever seen, with some attached Feldspar. Grandidierite is a rare magnesium aluminum borosilicate first discovered in 1902 in the Anosy Region of Madagascar. Crystals are very rare and ususally the best you can hope for are some crystal faces, and this specimen has crystal faces on part of one side. Grandidierite often appears on lists of the 10 rarest gems in the world. ©2010-2018 Marin Mineral |
