K896 - Spessartine Nani, Loliondo, Tanzania thumbnail - 2.4 x 1.8 x 1.1 cm Complete 'citrus' orange Spessartine crystal from old finds in Tanzania. These were mostly found as partial or damaged crystals with complete crystals such as this much less common. Excellent form with a few small edge chips and surface pits but no significant damage. Translucent with great color, there are some darker black included areas but also areas of superb gem transparenct. Weighs 37.30 grams.
MK593 - Alkali Beryl with Tourmaline Deo Darrah, Badakhshan, Afghanistan small cabinet - 5.5 x 4.5 x 3.3 cm Intergrown cluster of tabular blue Alkali Beryl crystals, Tourmaline, and Mica. The Beryl crystals reach 1.3cm in size with glassy luster on the thin edges. The colorful Tourmaline crystals show light etching. Well crystallized all around. Note that these were once thought to be the Cesium rich species Vorobyevite but analyses did not show Cesium and this name has since been discredited.
MK594 - Apatite Dara-e-Pech, Kunar, Afghanistan small cabinet - 5.5 x 4.5 x 4 cm Three crystals of translucent to transparent Apatite crystals in a vug with Quartz crystals. The crystals have good purple color with the main Apatite crystal 1cm in size. Sawcut on base and one side.
MK812 - Azurite Volborthite Pocket, Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Sonora, Mexico small cabinet - 7 x 4 x 4 cm Cluster of translucent Azurite crystals on starkly contrasting white matrix from the Volborthite pocket of the Milpillas Mine. The Azurite from this area of the mine are known for their distinctive tabular crystals that occur on a white matrix. The crystals on this specimen reach 2cm in size and are in pristine condition. Highly translucent with backlighting with a blue glow showing on the white matrix below.
LP105 - Fluorite on Quartz Huanggang Mine, Inner Mongolia, China small cabinet - 8 x 5.5 x 3.5 cm Inky, translucent blue Fluorite crystals partially coating Quartz crystals. This is a superb example from this occurrence, one of the best I've seen. Pristine and undamaged all around. Ex. Len Pisciotta collection and comes with an old Andy Seibel label.
MK915 - McGuinnessite Red Mountain, Mendocino Co., California, USA small cabinet - 8 x 6 x 4.5 cm Blue/green McGuinnessite on multiple sides of a rock matrix. Mcguinnessite is a rare Mg-Cu carbonate, a member of Rosasite Group and is named after well-known California mineralogist, Al McGuinness. The matrix is richly covered with radial clusters and hemispheres of teal-blue McGuinnessite on most sides. Comes with an old Chuck Trantham label that indicates it was collected in July 1975. Comes with an old Al McGuinness label. Ex. Len Pisciotta collection.
MK840 - Andradite near Bishop, Inyo Co., California, USA small cabinet - 5.8 x 3.5 x 2 cm Cluster of highly lustrous orange/brown Andradite crystals on matrix. Individual crystals reach 1.7cm wide.
LP149 - Quartz, Epidote after Andradite Garnet Hill Mine, Calaveras Co., California, USA small cabinet - 7.5 x 4 x 3.5 cm Rare pseudomorph of white Quartz and green Epidote that has replaced a large Andradite garnet crystal. The main crystal is 5cm in size and shows areas of white Quartz and pistacio green Epidote. The repalcement is complete with virtually no Andradite remaining. Ex. Len Pisciotta collection. Len collected this locality often and this was one of his 'keepers'.
MK837 - Topaz Maynard (Bixby) Mine, Thomas Range, Juab Co., Utah, USA miniature - 3.7 x 3 x 3 cm Well balanced specimen of Topaz crystals on Rhyolite matrix. The Topaz are gemmy and undamaged. There are small crystals rising up around the bottom with a larger 3.2cm crystal crossing over the top.
LP445 - Quartz Gwindel Shalman, Khyber Agency, Pakistan small cabinet - 7 x 5 x 4 cm Transparent Quartz gwindel, 5.5cm wide, with Quartz crystals of typical form. Complete all around and in excellent condition. Ex. Len Pisciotta collection. I like the combination of the two forms of Quartz together.
LP447 - Quartz Gwindel Shalman, Khyber Agency, Pakistan small cabinet - 5.5 x 3.7 x 2.4 cm Glassy single Quartz gwindel from Pakistan. Complete all around and nearly pristine. Ex. Len Pisciotta collection.
LP590 - Ludlamite with Vivianite Cabeca do Cachorro claim, Sao Gabriel da Cachoeira, Amazonas, Brazil cabinet - 14 x 13 x 4 cm Glassy bright green Ludlamite crystals and bluegreen Vivianite on matrix from a relatively new locality in northwestern Brazil. The crystals are bright, translucent to transparent, and reach 1.5cm in size. Gorgeous specimen of exceptional quality for the species.
LP611 - Malachite on Dioptase with Shattuckite pseudomorphs Tantara Mine, Shinkolobwe, Katanga, DR Congo cabinet - 10.5 x 7 x 6 cm Large specimen of Dioptase, primary Malachite crystals, and Shattuckite. Though not a classically perfect specimen (the front of the Malachite cluster is contacted by the opposing pocket wall), it is none the less large, impressive, and very interesting. Also, I got it in trade and have it priced to move. To start with, the cluster of Malachite crystals is nearly 6cm wide and composed of huge individual crysals that are sharp and pointed. There is no rock matrix - the rest of the specimen is composed entirely of Dioptase crystals, Shattuckite, and Chrysocolla. On the right side there is a large open vug lined with botryoidal Shattuckite and Dioptase crystals. On the back, there are at least a few small crystals of the rare double pseudomorph of Shattuckite after Dioptase after Calcite. All in all, a highly interesting and representative specimen from the Tantara Mine.
LP808 - Hyalite Opal Aguascalientes, Mexico small cabinet - 5.3 x 4.5 x 3 cm Bubbly-looking formations of transparent Hyalite on a Chalcedony matrix. The Hyalite is colorless and glass-like, complete all around and undamaged. The opal is Fluorescent yellow under UV lighting.
