AF812 - Sapphire on Scapolite $ 600 SOLD Mpwapwa, Tanzania small cabinet - 6 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm 
This is the best specimen from a small number of specimens available from this new find. Glassy pink Sapphire crystals to 1.5cm in size on a etched yellow Scapolite crystal. The Sapphires have a subtle pink hue, similar to rose quartz. A beautiful and unusual piece that was head and shoulders above the approximately 10 other pieces available.

Glassy, transparent Ruby crystal. Wafer-like crystal with triangular growth patterns on the faces.

Glassy, transparent Ruby crystal. Wafer-like crystal with triangular growth patterns on the faces. The largest crystal of the lot.

Single untwinned Alexandrite, gemmy with good crystal form.
AF484 - Alexandrite $ 700 SOLD Lake Manyara, Tanzania thumbnail - 1.3 x 1.1 x 0.6 cm 
V-twin Alexandrite crystal, gemmy with good crystal form. Chunky floater crystal with no damage or points of attachment. Purple and green color. These were found some time ago and have not been seen since.
AF817 - Zircon $ 170 Mashewa, Tanga Region, Tanzania thumbnail - 2 x 0.7 x 0.7 cm 
Single gemmy Zircon crystal with a nice wine red to red brown coloration and much better transparency than most from this find. Complete and undamaged except the slightest edge wear and interesting multi-faceted termination.
AF818 - Zircon $ 150 Mashewa, Tanga Region, Tanzania thumbnail - 2 x 0.9 x 0.6 cm 
Single gemmy Zircon crystal with a nice wine red to red brown coloration and much better transparency than most from this find. Complete and undamaged, but with some natural indentations in one area, likely caused by the inclusions of unidentified white crystals that are occasionally found in the Zircons from this area (and present in this crystal).

Single gemmy Zircon crystal with a nice wine red to red brown coloration and much better transparency than most from this find. Complete and undamaged except the slightest edge wear.
AF820 - Zircon SOLD Mashewa, Tanga Region, Tanzania thumbnail - 2 x 0.7 x 0.6 cm 
Single orange/brown Zircon crystal with good crystal form. A well formed, complete and undamaged Zircon crystal. INterestingly, there are shallow indentations on the crystal surfaces from crystals of an unidentified mineral that were formerly attached and have since etched away.
AF821 - Sapphire $ 2100 SOLD Winza, Dodoma, Tanzania miniature - 5 x 3 x 2.8 cm 
Cris-crossing blue and pink Sapphire crystals. For my tastes, this is the best specimen I've yet seen from this relatively new find of Sapphire crystals. Individual crystals reach nearly 3cm in length and are nicely translucent to transparent. The matrix is extremely hard; that and the fact that most are cut for gemstones makes finding good specimens from this locality diffcult.
AF822 - Chrysoberyl $ 240 Lost Hope Mine, Karoi, Zimbabwe thumbnail - 1.2 x 1 x 0.9 cm 
No, this is not Brazilian; this little gem dates back to the 1980s and was included in a small lot of blue Euclase I purchased. Though the mine is most famous for Euclase, these sixling Chrysoberyls were also occasionally found, most about this size.
AF823 - Tsavorite $ 400 Merelani Hills, Lelatema Mtns., Arusha Region, Tanzania thumbnail - 1.6 x 1.3 x 1 cm 
Complete, glassy Tsavorite crystal. One tiny ding present on one face, otherwise undamaged - even the bottom faces are crystallized, though show the indentations from the thin blades of Graphite the crystal formed upon.

Glassy and gemmy Tsavorite crystal with excellent green color.
AF825 - Tsavorite $ 80 SOLD Merelani Hills, Lelatema Mtns., Arusha Region, Tanzania thumbnail - 1.2 x 1.0 x 1 cm 
Glassy light green Tsavorite crystal with good luster. Mostly complete crystal with some indentations in back where other crystals intergrew, and some Graphite on the bottom where it was attached to matrix.
AF480 - Enstatite $ 90 Kilosa, Tanzania thumbnail - 1.6 x 0.6 x 0.6 cm 
Transparent, brown Enstatite crystal with good luster and nicely terminated. Crystals from this find are usually only suitable for facet rough as most are unterminated and etched, in fact this crystal was pulled from facet rough.
